It’d be no stretch to say that Performance – the debut album from Liverpudlian five-piece Outfit – is one of the year’s most anticipated British releases. From the record’s opening salvo of stomped beats and effects-laden guitars on ‘Nothing Big’ through to ‘Two Islands” spiralling peaks of yodelled vocals and jagged, dancefloor riffs, it’s a vitally original suite, one that has Mercury Prize written all over it. With Performance hitting stores – and online retailers, of course – this week, we’re positively giddy to have the Outfit boys as our latest Band of the Week. Hurrah!
Below, as a prelude to our week of Outfit-themed raving, you can check out ‘House on Fire’ – the latest track to be unveiled from Performance. Rooted in four-to-the-floor rhythms, proceedings are slowly but surely overrun by meandering, cavernous guitars, abrasive blasts of feedback and occult-esque chants of ‘We can have some fun’. It’s one that certain to get under your skin:
